Young Authors' Conference - May 1, 2020

The Young Authors' Conference is for aspiring young writers. It is hosted by School District No. 73 and held at Thompson Rivers University every spring.

Creative writing is celebrated as a joyful and rewarding art. Participating grades 4-12 students attend engaging workshops facilitated by published writers, develop their writing skills and confidence, and collaborate with peers.

Please contact your child's school for more information.

Registration information
The Young Authors’ Conference brings together committed young writers in School District No. 73 to work with professional authors. 2020 marks the 41st anniversary of this popular event.

Students in grades 4 through 12 are eligible to participate. To enter, a student must submit a manuscript of script, prose, or poetry to their school’s Young Authors' Conference contact (or principal). The school contact refers the manuscript to a school-based committee that selects outstanding compositions.  Authors of these compositions are invited to attend the conference. Each year about 250 students participate in the conference.

The Young Authors' Conference Committee reads each manuscript, identifies top entries, and includes all submissions in an Anthology posted on the Young Authors’ website. Authors of the top elementary and secondary compositions receive the Marg van Duesen Awards. Honorable Mentions are noted for each grade.

See Conference tab for more details about the day. See Authors tab for this year's authors and their workshop descriptions.

For more information please contact Deanna Brady or Tricia Persad.
